Therapy Approaches
Family
Therapy addresses interpersonal relationships within the context of a
family or any relational system involving two or more people.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy addresses how our beliefs and thoughts
affect our behaviours and emotions. The focus is to first identify our
negative automatic thoughts that contribute to our problems, and then
to replace/counteract them
with rational positive self talk.
Gestalt Therapy is an experiential psychotherapy focusing on the full
awareness of ourselves in moment to moment experience. Through the
“here and now” experience, we can be free from past unfinished
business. The goal is to become aware of
what we are doing, how we are doing it, and how we can change
ourselves, and at the same time, to learn to accept and value
ourselves.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an information
processing therapy that is commonly used
to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder or impacts of a trauma,
e.g., emotional difficulties after an auto accident.
